Geocache Description:

It's that time of year again.the weather is cooling, the trees are changing, and Geocachers will be hitting the hills. We placed a string of caches near Twin Lakes Campground. We didn't bother with any swag, simple caches with logs and pencils.

Be sure to wear orange during hunting season.

I have been asked a few questions about our caches. So hope this will help.

Anyone looking to go after the twin lakes caches, here are some tips and comments. The general consensus is they are a little challenging. We didn't want them sticking out like sore thumbs, but we didn't want people searching for long periods of time.

All caches are small in size and painted brown. They are not hidden under rock piles or stick piles which are obvious. There are some micros and nanos as well. Most are on the ground, but some are hanging in trees as well.

If you want to make a day of this, I would suggest parking at the train bridge at the corner of Twin Lakes Road and Dahoga Road. N 41°35'53.50 W78°43'39.99". There are a few other caches in the area as well. If you do the entire loop, you can pickup about 50 total. Its about a 7 to 8 mile round trip trek. This would be working them backwards from #40 to #1. After #1 you could back track to #3 and go down that path through the clearing to an older multi cache of ours called Preakness. That will lead you straight back to the train bridge on Twin Lakes Road.

This can be biked, hiked or even driven off of 7 mile road. Numbers 26 through 32 are on the Black Cherry trail in Twin Lakes campground. That section may be a bit more challenging for a bicycle. Depends on your mountain biking capabilities. Otherwise, you could lock them up at the campground. The gate to Twin Lakes Campground is closed around November till April.

If not up to the 7 -8 mile hike around the loop, then caches 1-22 can be accessed by vehicle off 7 Mile Road - using road 191. Drive all the way to the gate to park. (about 2 miles from 7 Mile Road) this part of series runs along the road 191.
23-25 can be accessed by either side of the gated trail. Runs about ¾ of mile from one side of gate to the other.
26-32 are located on the Black Cherry Trail in Twin Lakes Campground
33-40 are located along Twin Lakes Road before Twin Lakes Campground

Hope everyone enjoys. Next spring, we are thinking about doing a string of caches down Twin Lakes trail to Route 948.
