Geocache Description:

Come take a tour of the Foster City Lagoon! This is a multi-stage cache, and the first three stages are virtual. You will visit some interesting locations on the lagoon and find information only visible from the water. This is the second cache in my Lagoon Tour series.

Please do not attempt to get the required information by land. If possible at all, doing so would require trespassing on private property. You will not need to get out of your boat until you get to the final step. Each step has a different location saved as a waypoint in the cache listing. For each step, go to the location specified in its waypoint and follow the instructions for that step below. After you have gotten all three pieces of information, you will use the formula at the end of the listing to find the location of the actual cache.

 You will need a boat to complete this cache. Please note that no gas or diesel powered boating is allowed on the lagoon. Boats may be powered only by sail, electric battery, or by person power. You will be able to use any allowable kind of boat to find this cache.

There are public boat launch locations at Leo Ryan Park, Boat Park and other locations on the lagoon. I have provided waypoints for the two main boat launch locations. It is possible to rent suitable boats on the lagoon.

There are a number of amenities on the lagoon listed on the City of Foster City website at http://www.fostercity.org/parksandrecreation/parksandwater/water-activities.cfm . Some of these may be useful for finding this cache.

The first stage is the nearest to the boat launch at Leo Ryan Park. Finding the cache and returning should take from half an hour to two hours or so depending on what kind of boat you use and where you launch your boat. By kayak, it should take from 45 minutes to an hour on a calm day from the Leo Ryan Park boat launch. The terrain rating is five only because you need a boat. The lagoon is often calm and you will not be boating through any difficult passages or rapids.
Please bring a pen or pencil with you.

Stage #1:

The cache’s listed coordinates will take you to one of the main channels of the lagoon.

Look at the building on the nearest shore. There are a number of pictures on its side. Count the number of pictures on the broad side of the building facing the water.

A = [The number of pictures] + 1.

Stage #2:

Go across to the other shore and further down the lagoon to the stated coordinates. Look at the house you are closest to and find its weathervane. The weathervane is in the form of a type of vehicle once common in Foster City. How many sources of propulsion does the vehicle have?

B = [The number of sources of propulsion ]

D = B + 1.

Stage #3:

You are near a nice park with a beach, a play structure, bathrooms and picnic tables.

The electric boats in Foster City often have amusing names. You are in front of one of them. What do you think the name means? Why do you think it is an appropriate name?
If there is no boat at the coordinates when you get there, you can use any of the ones at the “Stage 3 – Alternate” waypoints instead for the same result.

C = [ The number of letters (not including punctuation marks, if any) in the boat’s name]  - 1.

Stage #4:

The cache is located at    N 37 33.A5A    W 122 15.DCB .

You will probably need to get out of your boat to find it.

Please note that the cache is not accessible from private property.

Congratulations to Psychoticjester for being the First To Find this cache with the original stage #2,
and to Geo Fan for the FTF in a boat .

I hope you enjoy your tour of the lagoon!
