The cache is located on the outskirts of Aberthaw Nature Reserve and Biodiversity Area. There are a number of signs warning people to beware of snakes (but don't worry, they will be more afraid of you than you of them!). It is recommended that after finding GZ that you carry on through trees down into the nature reserve. The reserve is a mix of lagoons, reed beds, sand dunes and beach. You can regularly see Swans, Mallard, Shell Duck, Moor Hens, Grebes, Egrets, Turn Stones, Oyster Catchers, Ringed Plovers and Stone Chats. The reserve is also home to Adders (hence the name of the cache) which I have only been lucky enough to spot once.
The Reserve is also home to the derelict building of the old lime works. The costal path to the west will take you past Aberthaw Powerstation and on to Llantwit Major. It is one of Geodog's favourite walks!
The Blue Anchor pub in Aberthaw village is dates from 1380 and is one of the oldest pubs in the whole of the UK. It is well worth a visit!
