The neighbouring exhibit was built for the Giant Pandas that went on display in 1989. Afterwards it was used for a variety of animals including some that were also temporarily on loan to the zoo. It became the Pavillion of the LIons in 2010, and is now looking to become the future home of gibbons in late 2016.
For folks who visited the zoo before 2012, you will remember the Primate House, which was home to gibbons (including my favourite, Mel Gibbon) and monkeys. It was built in 1964 and closed down in 2012. It became Bamboo Point in 2014 where it housed Red Pandas. The building was eventually demolished to make space for the McFeetor's Heavy Horse Centre that opened in 2015.
