Geocache Description:

A puzzle cache located in the grounds of Cotehele House and Gardens.

Many thanks to the National Trust for giving permission for the cache to be placed here.

The Church

Cotehele House Chapel is a consecrated church within the Diocese of Truro but is unusual in that it is contained within the structure of Cotehele House. The entrance to the chapel is up some ancient steps in the corner of the house's main dinning room.

It is a small but beautiful chapel in which services are still regularly held.

It contains a number of commemorative plaques to members of the ancient Edgcumbe family for whom this was a home from the early 15th Century up until the mid 20th Century.

In one corner of the chapel is an old, still working domestic clock which strikes the hours rather than driving hands on a dial. It is the oldest, still working domestic clock in England.

In order to visit the chapel you need to gain entry to the house which has limited opening times and for which there is a charge to non-members of the National Trust. More details about visiting the house can be found HERE

The House Chapel should not be confused with the Chapel In the Woods which is another small beautiful building in the grounds of Cotehele House built by Sir Richard Edgcumbe in the late 1480's to give thanks for his escape from the King's men after a thwarted rebellion against Richard III.

Cotehele House is a remarkable place - frozen in time and containing some magnificent Tudor and Medieval furniture.

This cache has been created as a Mystery Cache in order that the final location can be determined without the need to enter the house and pay a charge.
