I have a fascination with little city parklettes, and I thought, what a cool place for a cache.
Morrow Park is a perfect spot to take a quick rest while on a long city hike. This small haven in the middle of a triangle intersection is known as the "Gateway to the 8th Ward." In 1922 it was named for Eustes Morrow who was Pittsburgh's City Controller for 40 years. He lived on Liberty Ave.
The WWII memorial was dedicated on June, 14th 1949. It was sculpted by the famous Pittsburgh sculptor, Frank Vittor. The memorial was the inspiration of Samuel Juliano, who owned the Little Cottage Restaurant at 4624 Liberty Ave. He and his wife, Adeline, donated $5300 when funding was slim, of which was never recovered. Unfortunately, Samuel died on February, 25th 1948; sixteen months before the unveiling.
