Geocache Description:

This cache is placed with grateful thanks to Tiny Essence who has a similar series of caches in and around Plymouth.

The K6 Phone Boxes are the iconic symbol of the early development of modern telephone communications and brought the public telephone to many outlying rural areas in the days when a private landline was an unaffordable luxury.

The K6 Phone Box was designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott and was introduced in 1935 to celebrate King George V's Silver Jubilee. For over 60 years it has been a common sight across the country in cities, towns and villages. However with the common adoption of home telephones and with the more recent use of mobile phones, these iconic landmarks are slowly disappearing. Many have had their phone removed and have been adopted by the local community for use a small libraries, information booths and homes for public defibrillator devices.

This cache will take you on a tour of some of the local and beautiful villages close to the coastal landmark of the Dodman Point.

It will need you to do some research using the web and Google Street View to locate where each box is to be found. You are provided with a picture and a cryptic clue to help.

All the boxes are easily accessible and all can be seen on Street View. They are listed in alphabetic order - once you know where they are all located you need to plan a route to find them - at each box you are asked to obtain some number information which can be found close by. The 8 numbers build to provide the final cache location.

If you get it right, as you retrieve the cache, you should be able to see an eighth K6 box down below you and a few hundred metres away.

Some of the locations will be extremely busy especially in the summer months and you will need to park up and walk to the box location.

I hope this cache provides a challenge for which the research can be used to pass a long wet winter evening on the computer and then a pleasant couple of hours driving around to finally solve the puzzle. For holidaymakers, it is an opportunity to visit some very nice places in south mid Cornwall that you may not have encountered before. Total distance around all the locations is approximately 13 miles.
