Geocache Description:

This cache has been hidden on the Northside of Ararat in the Ararat Regional Park. Plenty of space to picnic, cache, park and let go of a little steam. A qiuet spot, on a fire track, with a fire-dam nearby.

The waypoint is a great place to park.

I first came accross New Year Day Rd, on new Year Day 2013, and decided it needed a cache. Some maps mark this as New Year Day Rd, other maps continue to call it Noah Ark Rd.

The location for this cache in ecologically sensative, home to distinctive variety of plants and animals, please respct the location, and be careful where you step. This location is also used, seasonally, for BEE BOXES. If you are allergic to bees, be prepared, or skip this cache. Be polite to any Bee Keepers, they can be territorial.

Welcome to Ararat Regional Park, one of the least exploited areas in Ararat, and an ideal location to get away from the noise, enjoy the solitude and listen to birds- unless other people have the same idea. Plenty of evidence around that people camp, ride horses and dirtbikes on this track. Sawpit Flat Rd is well maintained, but I suggest driving at 40kph when the bitumen runs out.

After parking (at the waypoint) plot your path carefully. The terrain is flat, but with dense growth, including prickly acaias. In wet weather the soild becomes sodden, wear sensible shooes/ boots.

Cache:

- The cache contains a log-book, please make sure you bring a pen

- The actual cache is similar to a bison.

-This cache is also suitably camouflaged to the surroundings

Parking:

Plenty of space, use your judgement. Consider the trek off the track, other caches in the area and muggles. There is more than enough parkng at the waypoint. use your car to conceal your activities. You can park within meters of GZ.

Muggles:

This is a fire track but watch out for the following.

- Dirtbike riders

- Farmers in utes

- People riding horses

- Daytrippers

- Campers

- Council workers in heavy machinary

Other Hazards:

- Bees and Bee Keepers, not sure which is worse.

- Mosquittos in wet weather

- Tracks and off-road terrain can be slippery when wet

-  Sawpit Flat Rd is well maintained, but smaller vehicles may have trouble

- Watch out for snakes in warmer weather, use a walking stick to tap the ground

- Watch out for kangaroos, drive slow.
