A principal atração do parque é a furna que ocorre no cruzamento de falhas geológicas e fraturas que cortam as rochas arenosas, típicas da região.
The main attraction of the park, is the cave that occurs at the intersection of geological faults and fractures that cut the sandy rocks, typical of the region.
O acesso ao interior da furna se dá pelo leito do Rio Quebra-Perna, com a ocorrência de uma imponente cachoeira de 30 metros de altura.
Access to the interior of the cave is through the River Quebra-Perna, with the occurrence of an imposing waterfall 30 meters high.

O termo “furna” significa caverna, cova, lapa, sendo utilizado em outras regiões brasileiras para designar qualquer escorregamento de encosta ou cavidade no terreno. Uma expressão alternativa para se referir às Furnas dos Campos Gerais seria “Poços de Desabamento”, pois são feições deprimidas, aproximadamente cilíndricas com profundas paredes verticais, geradas naturalmente em subsuperfície com abatimento do teto de arenito. As furnas no Paraná ocorrem quase exclusivamente na área de afloramento da Formação Furnas, sendo mencionadas cerca de 50 furnas na região dos Campos Gerais, a grande maioria rasa e pouco desenvolvida. No Parque Estadual de Vila Velha 12 feições deprimidas foram classificadas como furnas das quais apenas as Furnas 1, 2 e Lagoa Dourada possuem infra-estrutura para visitação turística.

Os arenitos da Formação Furnas (Arenito Furnas), que abrigam os poços de desabamento, são rochas sedimentares claras, de origem marinha costeira com idades em torno de 400 milhões de anos. Apresentam-se em camadas horizontalizadas com marcante estratificação. Predominam grãos do mineral quartzo, cimentados pelo mineral caulinita. Este último, principalmente, pode sofrer corrosão (dissolução), desagregando o arenito e ajudando a gerar as furnas. Acredita-se que uma combinação de fatores é responsável pela origem das furnas: natureza dos arenitos da Formação Furnas, com alguns minerais solúveis; presença de falhas e fraturas que facilitam a passagem da água e a erosão; existência, em grande profundidade abaixo das furnas, de rochas carbonáticas, que têm tendência de formar grandes cavernas.
The sandstones of the Furnas Formation (Arenito Furnas), which shelter the sinking wells, are light sedimentary rocks, of coastal marine origin with ages around 400 million years. They are presented in horizontal layers with marked stratification. Predominant grains of the mineral quartz, cemented by the mineral kaolinite. The latter, mainly, can suffer corrosion (dissolution), disintegrating the sandstone and helping to generate the furnas. It is believed that a combination of factors is responsible for the origin of the furnas: nature of the Furnas Formation sandstones, with some soluble minerals; presence of faults and fractures that facilitate the passage of water and erosion; existence, deep beneath the furnas, of carbonate rocks, which tend to form large caves.

O Parque localiza-se na Região de Itaiacoca e o acesso é pela Rodovia do Talco (PR 513) km 14.

Para quem vem de Ponta Grossa, a partir do Campus Uvaranas da UEPG, percorrem-se 16km e vira-se à direita em uma estrada não pavimentada. Após 5 km, deve-se virar à esquerda para o acesso ao Buraco do Padre.
For those who come from Ponta Grossa, from the UEPG Uvaranas Campus, they travel 16km and turn right on an unpaved road. After 5 km you should turn left to access the Buraco do Padre.
Horário de Visitação: quarta-feira à domingo e feriados das 9hs às 17hs. Saída obrigatória de visitantes: até 19hs.
Visitation Hours: Wednesday to Sunday and holidays from 9am to 5pm. Required departure from visitors: until 7pm.
