Geocache Description:

A small traditional cache hidden close to a path in a pleasant little reserve in the centre of Lane Cove.

There is room for swaps and travel bugs, and it contained a few swaps when first hidden.

The reserve can be accessed from most of the surrounding streets. The cache is hidden very close to the path, so no need to go bush bashing.

Hands Quarry is a reserve bounded by Barwon Road, Hallam Avenue, Moore Street and Garling Street.

It was previously called Garling Street Reserve, but was re-named in 1994 after William Hand, who worked for Lane Cove Council. His son, Jack Hand, says that his father worked in the sandstone quarry in the reserve and lived in Henley Street. William Hand died in 1978.

If you access the reserve from Hallam Avenue you will pass through an interesting ampitheatre and stone arch.

This cache is a replacement for the original Cacher's Survial Kit (GCN8H4), which was hidden by "missleah and shaggy" in March 2005. The original cache was archived in 2010 because the cache owner could no longer maintain it. My son and I found the original cache by accident in November 2016 when we were looking for somewhere to hide a new cache. So we thought we should honour the memory and name this cache after the orignal. The original cache has now been removed.
