Geocache Description:

This is a quick cache and dash situated at Muff Church of Ireland Co Donegal.

Muff Church, Church of Ireland (Anglican) Diocese of Derry and Raphoe, belonging to the Christ Church, Culmore, Muff and St Peter's grouping.

in 1693 the Parish of Muff is believed to be one of five chapels of ease attached to Templemore under the name of Iskaheen.  St Columbkille is said to have founded an abbey at Iskaheen meaning the beautiful water.  This is believed to have been a dependant on the Abbey of Derry.  The ruins of the original Abbey can be seen opposite the site of the existing Roman Catholic Chapel at Iskaheen.

The church at Muff appears to have fell into disrepair soon after 1693 and a new one was constructed 2 miles from the location of the original church site.  The bell from the original church was used in the new one until 1722 when records show a new bell was procured.

In 1809 the parish became a perpetual Curacy with 14 townlands attached to it.  The church was repaired in 1875 and also in 1893 when it was alter and improved.  As part of a memorial and thank you to those who served in the Great War, new tiles were laid in the aisle and porch in 1921 and a brass eagle lecturn was also donated as a mark of remembrance to those who fell in action.

The East window of the church has three lights and tracery has coloured glass and depicts a cup and grapes and the lamb of God.  It commentates Commander George Vaughan Hart, RN of Killderry and his wife Jane Marie, whom both dies in 1895.

In 1978 Culmore and Muff were grouped with St Peter's Belmont and became known as "The grouped parishes of Culmore, Muff and St Peter's".   Finally in September of 2007 the group was extende again to amalgamate Christ Church on Infirmary Road.

Cache is a magnetic nano tucked in away from passing muggles.  Please bring your own pen and tweezers may be useful to extract the log.

There is room for a single car to pull up on the pavement outside the church.  There is on street parking just before the church which is signposted.

Please take care if you have children with you as it is on a busy road.

The Church Micro IE series is open to everyone; if you have a church you would like to place a cache at then please contact THE_Chris through Geocaching.com. This is to keep track of the numbers of the churches and give you the general format for the cache page. In the UK there are thousands in the series so we have some catching up to do! Also, if you currently have a published cache at a church that you would like to include in the series, get in contact and we can add it.
