Geocache Description:

A quick park and grab along the N7, with a spectacular view of the beautiful Maskamberg. Be sure to look up! The best time to grab the cache is at dusk, when the sun hits the mountain directly, lighting it up to a gorgeous red colour.

The Maskam mountain rises high above the small Namakwaland town of Vanrhynsdorp in the Western Cape, South Africa. This mountain is sometimes also referred to as the "gate or portal to Namakwaland". Namakwaland is a very arid region of South Africa but every year in August and September - especially if there was good rains during the winter - the whole land bursts out in wonderful colour when the hills and valleys are covered with many different flowers.

There is a pass up the Maskam mountain and on top of the mountain are also farms. The rock formations in this mountain is spectacular.

The land also hosts many different succulents of which the quiver trees. The quiver trees are named as such since the San hunters used the hollowed out stems of the tree as receptacles for their quivers. (Wia Kotze)
