Palazzo Gallio è una dimora cardinalizia che si trova a Gravedona, in provincia di Como.
La dimora venne fondata sul luogo dell'antico castello del paese, oggi non più esistente, dal cardinale e segretario di Stato al soglio pontificio Tolomeo Gallio, che ebbe il territorio delle Tre Pievi in feudo da Filippo II nel 1580. La posa della prima pietra è datata tra il 1586 e il 1587, e la sua costruzione viene attribuita dallo storico G. Stampa nelle sue "Notizie storiche" al magistro Giacomo Curti di Gravedona. L'edificio venne però ultimato dopo il 1607, anno della morte del cardinale, che non poté quindi mai abitarvi. Palazzo Gallio passò ai nipoti del Cardinale, i duchi d'Alvito, ma non fu mai utilizzato come residenza vera e propria: durante l'occupazione francese e spagnola fu utilizzato come ospedale, finché all'inizio del XIX secolo fu ceduto a privati. Oggi il palazzo è sede della Comunità Montana Valli del Lario e del Ceresio ed è stato inserito nella lista dei Monumenti Nazionali.

La villa è una solida mole quadrata che nelle quattro torri angolari ricorda l'antica vocazione castellana del luogo, mentre nelle due logge aperte sulle facciate verso il lago e verso monte si inserisce nella tradizione delle ville rinascimentali. I vani interni si articolano attorno ad un grande salone centrale. Il palazzo era circondato da un giardino citato fin dal 1500 per le rare essenze, che attualmente si distende verso monte, ed e caratterizzato dalla presenza di numerosi alberi di camelia. Ogni anno, la settimana precedente la Pasqua, si tiene nel Palazzo e nel giardino la "Mostra delle Camelie".

Palazzo Gallio.
It is one of the most visited places in Gravedona, whose roots lie in both the history of the small village that among the powers of wealthy Europeans in 1600.
After obtaining the “Feudo delle Tre Pievi” (a feud composed of the three parishes Sorico, Dongo and Gravedona) in 1580, the powerful and wealthy Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio, who already owned several Como properties, commissioned a talented architect (Pellegrino Tibaldi) to design a new palazzo on the upper lake, according to political and strategic rather than aesthetic criteria.
The “feudal” palazzo- castle was erected in 1586; it was right on the water and dominated the entire north end of the lake, with Monte Legnone opposite, and the Val Chiavenna and Valtellina not far away. Nevertheless, there were “gardens, fountains and ponds” on the property from the very beginning, as recorded on the marble plaque beneath the portico facing the lake.
Inherited by the Dukes of Alvito, the palazzo later passed through the hands of several owners, and is now the property of the Comunità Montana Alto Lario Occidentale. The edifice has always been bounded on one side by the lake, and the ancient Strada Regina on the other. Consequently, the gardens are composed of three sections: one in front of the entrance and the other two on either side, the section on the left being connected by a flight of steps to the private dock.
Through the centuries, much of what must have been created in a formal style has been replaced by English-style flowerbeds and trees, large conifers, magnolias and camelias. However, the upper, or entrance, garden still has trees incompatible with Renaissance models (the two Magnolia grandiflora on either side of the steps), the layout has remained formal, especially the central walk with box hedges and a fountain basin decorated with herbaceous perennials.
