Not many people are aware that the Tygerberg Nature Reserve has two entry points. This cache was placed to make people more aware of the secondary gate in Meyboom Street in Plattekloof. Unfortunately they have limited resources, so this gate is only open from 07:30 to 18:00 on some weekdays and from 07:30 to 19:00 every second weekend and public holidays. Please visit the City of Cape Town web site for the full Plattekloof gate operating hours. Operating hours are also posted at the entrance gate.
This cache was placed on the Peregrine hiking trail, and there's no need to leave the path to find it. Peregrine connects the Plattekloof gate to the rest of the hiking trails above. Quite a steep little climb though, covering roughly 300m in distance whilst ascending 100m. It does take you very close to at least 3 caches though, so it might be a time saver if you haven't visited those yet.
Nothing prevents you from visiting this cache from the main gate in Totius street in Welgemoed, especially if you feel like a nice walk through the entire reserve. The main gate is open from 07:30 to 18:00 on weekdays and from 07:30 to 19:00 on weekends and public holidays (closed on Christmas Day and Good Friday).
Current entrance fees: Adults R15.00, children (3-13 years) and senior citizens R8.00, children under 3 years free.
Also visit the City of Cape Town web site for more information on the Tygerberg Nature Reserve (some information in there is outdated). Alternatively visit the Friends of Tygerberg Hill web site.
Please remember to bring your own pen.
