The post office in Newkirk has been in operation since 1903 when the CRI & P Railroad came through. At first, this townsite was named CONANT after an early rancher, James Conant. Later, the name was changed to NEWKIRK by a settler from Newkirk, Oklahoma.
This "cemetery" cache is placed as an offset to the Newkirk Cemetery, located across I-40 to the southwest. Access to this cemetery is on private property with locked gates and with permission only. Its hard to see by naked eye, but no problem with a pair of binoculars.
The cache container is in an awkward place but EZ to get to, parking very near. Be cautious of desert critters, cactii and muggles.
