Geocache Description:

Technically, this cache is available 24/7, but if the boom gate is closed (which it usually is at night) you will have to walk up here. When the gate is open (during the day, and on evenings when there are public events up here), it is almost a park and grab. So why come at night when this is such a good spot to come and admire the view/visit/look around at? :)

There used to be a cache here, in the same place, with almost exactly the same name ... Now archived... It is kind of weird when one attends a Geocaching event and stands at the table signing the log, and looks over at the structure a few feet in front of you and thinks "hmmmm - (nothing on the map now, but) I am sure I found a cache here 2 or 3 years ago" So... I went over and looked in the spot I had found it, and guess what? - it was still there! It was archived a while back ( original listing is here )... But I quite liked that cache, and the location... And the container and contents are all good to go (kind of like winning a ready to place cache as a prize, but this one even has a name and a GZ already organised - lol) So... Figured I may as well re hide it :) (unfortunately that container was muggled a few years later, but, as luck would have it, I had recently acquired another lovely little container, that was almost identical to the original, to replace it with) During the event my phone was saying another newish cache is now about 3m too close to put it in the same spot ... but now that I am here just after the event, looking at the map/checking for another location - seems the original spot is actually ok... So... those who found the other one (or signed the log at the event) will find this very familiar :) The structure/wreckage here is, as far as I know, from when this area was burnt in the 2003 bushfire, and is the remains of a historic telescope. There is also a cool sculpture nearby, where I assume this cache got its original name... it is well worth checking out, and a good opportunity for some fun photos/selfies... this is probably the only way I will ever get to walk on the moon - sigh... It has been way too long since humans actually walked on the moon - and I am eagerly awaiting the day when people are walking on the Moon again :)
