Geocache Description:

[I sincerely apologize. I found a tiny mistake and have reloaded the image - Feb. 6, 2017 12:45 pm]

You have found yourself in Kansas during tornado season.

This afternoon there are a number of tornados and severe storms popping up all over the state.

The sirens are blaring in Witchita warning of an oncoming tornado. There is no choice in the matter you must get moving as fast as possible. Question is: Do you try and drive the northern route toward Salina or take the western route toward Dodge City. Both directions have hazards you must avoid in order to stay safe.

Before heading out familiarize yourself with these important road signs!

ARROWS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD
some roads are overpasses meaning a road can cross underneath it on a different level. When you encounter an arrow you must follow it only in the direction indicated. It will take you straight under the road above and guide you out to the other side.

If you touch a straight line with no arrow attached to it you must stop. You have then come to a dead end.

Do not travel into or through any of the following dangerous areas during stormy weather:

DEBRIS: head of a cow - indicates flying farm animals
DIRT ROAD: small dots - indicates dirt road
FIRE: Flame - indicates fire
FLOOD: 3 wavy lines - indicates flooded road
HAIL: large circles - indicates falling hail stones
LIGHTNING: black cloud with a sharp jagged line - indicates lightning
ROAD CLOSURE: cross in a circle - indicates a road closure
TORNADO - shape of a tornado - indicates yet another vortex
CHASER CONVERGENCE BLOCKING THE ROAD - shape of a car - indicates a traffic jam
WIND: wavy lines with arrows attached - indicates damaging winds

The North and West entrances are indicated on the map. Your exits are indicated with an arrow directing you to the Safe Tornado Shelter. Make it safely from one end to the other.

It is best to have a good map on the road so please click on the map image to enlarge the map below and print it to see all the details for a safe trip.
Good luck.

Your solution to the puzzle will require you to check the route you took.

Northern Route N 44 26.ABC
How many mini-tornadoes did you drive beside? Take this number + 3 = A
How many areas of hail did you drive beside? (count the areas not the hail balls)
Take this number + 6 = B
How many cow heads did you pass? Take this number + 3 = C

Western Route W 81 24.DEF
How many cow heads did you pass? Take this number + 1 = D
How many mini-tornadoes did you pass? Take this number + 1 = E
How many fires did you pass? Take this number + 3 = F
