Geocache Description:

This geocache is of significant historical interest. It is one of many places along the route traveled by Sir Percy FitzPatrick and his faithful dog, Jock.

'Jock of the Bushveld' is a book written by Percy FitzPatrick, a transport rider, about his adventures with Jock, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier. It takes place in the Lowveld during the time of the gold rush in the 1880's and is well worthwhile reading.

The Burgers Pass was the original wagon route between the Pilgrim's Rest and the Mac-Mac diggings. The northern entrance is near the 'Jock's route - Pilgrim's Rest' geocache and the southern entrance is near the 'Jock's route - R532 turn off' geocache.

This dirt road is used by timber trucks and can get muddy during the wet season, so excercise extreme caution while driving along it.
