You read the title – DO NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY! That is both unsafe and illegal. Park at the given waypoint, near the cemetery to the east. But don’t block the cemetery entrance either.
As a result of Fairmount Cemetery long ago being situated 400 m east of GZ, the Yellowhead Highway’s east- and westbound lanes diverge in this location to pass it by on either side. This has allowed two stands of trees to occupy what would otherwise be an unremarkable stretch of median. The stands are primarily deciduous hardwoods, with the notable exception of a single tall spruce tree near the western end.
Park at the given waypoint and hike in. This may be a challenge when snow piles up, but resist the urge to take the illegal and unsafe shortcut. There is easy access to GZ from the south side of the stand. Hung at a winter friendly height. The spruce tree is climbable if you’re inclined and able-bodied.
