L'abbazia di Maguzzano
L'antica "Abatiola" benedettina di Maguzzano sorgeva presso una strada romana alla fine del nono secolo. Fu incendiata dagli Ungheri agli inizi del 900 e, dopo la prima ricostruzione fu devastata dalle truppe viscontee nel 1339. Dopo l'unificazione con l'Abbazia di S. Benedetto Po in Polirone Mantova (1490), fu riedificata quasi dalle fondamenta e ornata della bella Chiesa rinascimentale e dell'elegante chiostro (1491-1496).
Nel 1553 ospitò l'illustre Cardinale Reginaldo Pole (1500-58) che qui svolse una intensa attività diplomatica per il ritorno dell'Inghilterra alla Chiesa di Roma. L'abbazia, soppressa da Napoleone nel 1796, passò in proprietà a privati. Nel 1904 vi ritornarono i monaci: una comunità di Trappisti Cistercensi di stretta osservanza, provenienti da Stauoëli (Algeria), che vi rimasero fino al 1938. Nel settembre dello stesso anno passò a Don Giovanni Calabria, sacerdote veronese che aveva da poco fondato la Congregazione dei Poveri Servi della Divina Provvidenza, in Verona.
Arte e architettura
La Chiesa rinascimentale è a una sola navata ed ha interessanti affreschi e tele (tra cui La Pala dell'Assunta, opera del Moretto 1552) e un bel Crocifisso ligneo (1620). Il Chiostro, elegante ed armonico, è ritmato da alte colonne rinascimentali (1496).
Ospitalità
L'Abbazia offre ospitalità a religiosi e a laici, sia uomini che donne. 80 i posti letto a disposizione in 50 stanze. Sono disponibili inoltre quattro sale per incontri. Per gruppi, la casa è disponibile nei mesi primaverili ed autunnali. Particolare disponibilità estesa a tutto l'anno per persone singole o piccoli gruppi e persone povere di mezzi. Con spirito ecumenico ospita fratelli di altre chiese cristiane: evangelici, anglicani e ortodossi.
Il cache
E' posizionato nel recinto in muro che protegge il perimetro della Abbazia.
é un box di plastica con Logbook e qualche pensierino.
Per arrivare al cache va fatto un pezzo a piedi (strada solo pr bike e pedoni).
Il sono partito da Desenzano... sul lago.. per mettere il cache. E voi almeno fatevi 200 mt !!! :)
The Abbey of Maguzzano
The ancient Benedictine "Abatiola" of Maguzzano stood on a Roman road at the end of the ninth century. It was burned down by the Neranges at the beginning of 900 and after the first reconstruction was devastated by Viscontees in 1339. After unification with the Abbey of S. Benedetto Po in Polirone Mantova (1490), it was rebuilt almost from the foundations and ornaments of Beautiful Renaissance church and elegant cloister (1491-1496).
In 1553 he hosted the illustrious Cardinal Reginaldo Pole (1500-58), who held an intense diplomatic activity here for the return of England to the Church of Rome. The Abbey, suppressed by Napoleon in 1796, passed into private property. In 1904 the monks returned: a community of strictly observant Cistercian Trappists from Stauoëli (Algeria), who remained there until 1938. In September of that same year he passed to Don Giovanni Calabria, a Veronese priest who had just founded the Congregation Of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence, in Verona.
Art and Architecture
The Renaissance Church is on one nave and has interesting frescoes and canvases (including the Pala dell'Assunta, the work of Moretto 1552) and a beautiful wooden Crucifix (1620). The cloister, elegant and harmonious, rhythmically risen by high Renaissance columns (1496).
Hospitality
The Abbey offers hospitality to religious and lay people, both men and women. 80 beds available in 50 rooms. There are also four meeting rooms available. For groups, the house is available in the spring and autumn months. Particular availability extended all year round for individuals or small groups and poor people of means. Ecumenical spirit hosts brothers from other Christian churches: evangelical, anglican and orthodox.
The cache
It is located in the wall fence that protects the perimeter of the Abbey.
It's a plastic box with Logbook and some thoughts.
To get to the cache you have to do a piece on foot (only for bicycles and pedestrians).
I started from Desenzano ... on the lake .. to put the cache. And you at least make 200 mt !!! :)
