He's Going to find Out... Who's Naughty or Nice... Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

tryfyn: It was good whilst it lasted but Santa has definitely left the building. I vaguely wonder who would nick a knackered old Santa but there you go... Nevermind - watch this space.

Geocache Description:

A simple cache with a seasonal theme. I don't expect it to last long but, hopefully, it should provide the odd smile...especially suitable if you have some small geocachers...

Clearing out the shed the other day, I came across some old stuff that no longer worked. The mantra "that's not trash, it's a geocache" immediately sprang to mind and I started thinking about a quick, simple and fun hide. Enjoy.

Father Christmas has many names - Santa Claus, Kris Kringle, Sinter Klaas, Weihnachtsmann - most derived from the 4th Century Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, who started the tradition of secret gift-giving. Interesting, Father Christmas was a distinctly British personification of Christmas cheer, first recorded in the late 17th century, when Christmas was re-established, having been banned by the Puritans. In the Netherlands, Sinter Klaas is accompanied by Zwarte Piet (Black Peter), whose job it is to punish children who've been naughty. All these distinct figures now seem to have been subsumed by the Coca-Cola Santa Claus, first seen in advertising in 1930s.

To my mind, though, the best version of all is Terry Pratchett's Hogfather

The cache is slightly offset from the co-ordinates but you shouldn't have any trouble finding it.
