Geocache Description:

This is the fifth in a series of caches placed in the Balcombe Heights Estate. There is ample parking at most times on the estate. This beautifully maintained park is a testament to the history of the Hills. It started off as a farm way back when convicts were granted parcels of land once they were pardoned for the most minor of crimes. It then fell into the hands of the Masons who proudly turned it into an orphanage and school to educate the less fortunate in the area. It was also for a time during WW2 a hospital for injured soldiers. Make sure you have a wander around all of the lovely old buildings and if you venture further behind them, you will find the enchanting memorial avenue of trees planted in memory of the lost soldiers of WW1. At the end of the avenue is a glass silhouette of a soldier inlaid in metal with the names of all of the Masons who died in the war. The series will take you through the estate past historic buildings and lovely parklands. To get to this cache following the series you will walk along the Avenue of trees planted in memory of the mason soldiers of WW1 then through a lovely park and past The Hills SES building. A walk past the front of several of the old buildings and a right turn down past the WW2 memorial. This cache is concealed near the Masonic Oval. Could be busy at times with cricket, football and walkers on the pathway, but with a little stealth will be able to be signed and rehidden without suspicion. Each cache contains a number which you will need to calculate the location of the final cache of this series. Please replace as found. Byo pen
