The London Road from Hitchin southwards ran through to St Albans with a branch joining the Great North Road. In the 19th Century it was a toll road, ensuring that the surface was at least partially maintained and the worst holes removed. Some would say that it has not changed much since then. The cache is at a distance marker, and is easily spotted. The road is quite busy and speeds high, so considerable care should be taken when going to the cache. Best not to take children along to this one. Parking nearby is also difficult, although there are a couple of places for one car. When placed, the cache contained a log, a new half penny and a small marble. Please bring a pen.
