Recently my family and I took the opportunity to pack a picnic supper and watch the sunset at this wonderful spot. This spectacular drive which can be accessed from the Hout Bay or Noordhoek sides is well worth a visit and a stop to veiw the incredible sites. Chapmans Peak is named after John Chapman who bravely set off from his ship into what is known as Hout Bay today,at his captains command in search of provisions. What a brave man he must have been and the pilot named the Bay Chapmans Chance. The road you will travel was built over 7 years in about 1920. At times the road is closed due to rock fall and dangerous conditions so it is always good to check the website first especially after heavy rainfall. There are many activities one can enjoy including running , cycling, hiking the route , horse riding on the beaches, whale watching in early spring and endless photgraphic opportunities and many good resturants to eat out at on either side.
Highly recommend Massimos in Hout Bay. Please be careful and do not go slipping down the cliff. We recently had to do maintanace on the cache and found that the canister had been taken and the log sheet left behind :( We only had a nano micro to replace it with and when we get another larger canister we will replace it UPDATE: Originally our cache was placed under a top slate of loose rock on the top of the small wall. Unfrutunately the site has been muggled and distroyed too many times. We have left co ordinates as they are...find the original stone then about 10 steps to the right along the wall will be your cache. Good luck and enjoy the view. A nice spot to enjoy the sunset and a picnic.
Enjoy your experience
