Geocache Description:

Majectical

Bring a camera, drink, a picnic, googles, togs and a blanket.

To find the cache you will have to walk along this coastal track, taking in the views up to Whangamata and down to Tauranga.  To your right in the distance is Mayor Island (Tuhua) a dormant shield volcano.

After parking the car in the shade of the Pohutakawa, walk down to Whiritoa Beach.

This is not a safe beach for swimming, please swim between the flags, which are at the surf club, which is about half way down the beach to the south.

The entrance to the Waimama Bay track is across the lagoon at the northern end, where the Ramarama stream empties into the sea.

A 15-20 minute walk will take you to the secluded Waimama Bay that features white sand, crystal clear waters and a canopy of gnarly Pohutukawa trees. A great place to snorkle, or just sit in the sun.

The next waypoint has you crossing a wooden fence and continuing your walk along the cliffs.  Stay on the track side of the fence, sheep are grazed here, and cattle at other times.

Stop and admire the views along the way, it is another 15-20 minute walk to the cache.

It can be hot in summer, with cooling sea breezes and shaded spots from the Pohutakawa lining the cliff top.

Once you have found the cache, you can follow the fence line down to the next waypoint.  This takes you to the top of a small waterfall and cliff drop off. This is the access point to the beach. A rope on the right of the stream, enables you to drop down to Papakura Bay.

Relax, explore, take in the views, and maybe find a geocache.

Hint: the cache is hidden at head height in a Pohutakawa tree, a camoed screw top jar, that is attached. Please tuck away as found.
