Hedgelaying at Hucclecote Meadows V Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

Evil Edna: I think everyone has logged attended. Thank you all for another great day.
For anyone interested at least one of the cows in the meadows has a new calf. Still very placid and safe to visit as long as you control any dogs.

Geocache Description:

Hedgelaying at Hucclecote Meadows.

Friday 10th March between 10am and 12 noon

*** BACK AGAIN BY POPULAR DEMAND! ***

A small but keen team of Geocachers have now been helping clear some very overgrown hedges in Hucclecote Meadows ready for re-structuring . We've had four goes at this now have really made progress.

This late/early in the season the birds will be beginning to nest so we must leave the uncleared brambly areas to them. But there is plenty to do on the cleared area making the new hedge. This is coming along nicely but needs strengthening. This involves hammering in stakes (culled from our coppicing), forming pleachers from the remaining larger trees and weaving in a band of withies along the top to make it cattle-proof while it establishes.

The activity is under the supervision of the Local Ranger, Felicity, who will supply the equipment although your own gloves could be useful.

Felicity as Ranger has set up an extra day hedging. Sunday 12th March 2-4pm. I am reluctant to set this up as a geocaching event but any helpers would be welcome

All Health and Safety issues will apply.

This work involves sharp tools and a bonfire as well as the ubiquitous brambles and briars.

Be careful of yourselves and those around you.

Dogs and children need to be under parental control.

Tea and biscuits should be available.

Prince Charles is a very proficient Hedge Layer and a keen advocate of maintaining traditional country crafts.
