No Country For Old Men (2007) is a classic film noir by the Coen brothers. Set in west Texas in the 1980's, it a dark tale of drug deals gone wrong, moral dilemmas over what would you do if you found a couple of million bucks of ill gained loot lying abandoned in the desert and a drug cartel desperate to get their loot back. The hired assassin is as merciless as the gorse on this trail and there is plenty of blood (both in the film and on your legs if you wear shorts like I did). The film reveals a soul-less America that is no country for anyone, never mind old men. The so-called codger representing besieged law and order is Sheriff Ed Tom Bell, played by Tommy Lee Jones. Here's the sheriff on how crime has gotten so out of hand: "It starts when you begin to overlook bad manners. Anytime you quit hearin' 'sir' and 'ma'am,' the end is pretty much in sight."
This cache is placed in an area where wild westerlies are common, it snows in winter and the ground is slippery after rain. It is tough for anyone, not just old men. Wear good footwear and long pants. Beware buffalos in the dense undergrowth.
