Geocache Description:

Quite a historically interesting area which was only accessible by boat 150 years ago. Now nearby Snells Beach, Warkworth, Matakana and Algies Bays are growing very rapidly with the construction of the motorway coming up from Auckland City.

The street where the geocache is located is named after the Grange Family 1853-1893
In 1853 Captain Hugh Grange, who owned and ran a coastal schooner called "Tattycorum", bought 200 acres on the banks of the Mahurangi River. Capt. Grange built his house on the SE corner of this property where there was easy tidal access to a branch of the Te Whau (Dawson's) Creek. The only access to the property until 1912 was from the river. The house was named "Harbour View" as there was a clear view down to the river mouth from the homestead. This house was later dismantled and taken to Lilburn Street in Warkworth and re-erected for Hugh Grange’s widow.

On the approach to the cache there are nice views over Kawau Bay and the Mahurangi Harbour from the highest point in Grange Street. It's a dead end road so you have to return the way out you came in.

Cache is a 300ml Systema container.

It contains logbook, pencil and a few small items.

Don't worry about the people in the nearby house - they know what you are after. Maybe you even have a friendly cache chat with them :-)

Congrats to garbal to be FTF only 10 hrs after cache being published!
