Geocache Description:

Derek's Tree was donated and planted in memory of Derek Lendosky. Derek would have loved geocaching, and what better way to hide a cache, than do a unique cache here. Derek was an avid baseball player, and this is where he spent most of his time outdoors, in the backyard. Don't worry about muggles here, they are all avid geocachers. Enjoy this unique container!

Derek's Tree was planted on August 11, 2013, one week after Derek passed away. It was donated by ACUITY Insurance to the family in his memory. Soon after it was planted, a wonderful neighbor, Phil Alm, then created landscaping to go around which included handmade bases as Derek loved baseball. The surrounding solar lights provide a nice light at night around the tree. Derek's nickname was D Rock, and Phil found a stone that was special to him and had that rock placed in the holder you will see next to the tree. The tree grew stron the first 3 years, until a windy summer day in 2016 when the tree was snapped half way up. But the tree has shown resilience and has continued to grow, despite being ripped in two. This is one of our more fun containers. Enjoy!
