The Point of No Return Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Lil Rafa: Sadly I'm going to archive this one. The golf course development on the spit is continuing, and there are more controlled burnoffs planned, so even if I move the cache, there is no way to predict if it will survive. I'll miss the mysterious 'shoe tree' when I walk along this part of the beach.......

Geocache Description:

This cache has been placed for those geocachers who are making the trek out to GCZMW6 The Point.

It's a long trek out to The Point (GCZMW6). The point of The Point is "to take a long walk". Whilst some cachers do take a long walk, other cachers take a short boat trip. The point of this cache is to give those cachers who have opted for taking a long walk, with another smiley to find along the way.

The description provided in The Point is very good, so some of that will be restated here.

Please park near S42 50.541 E147 32.483. As this car park is a little bit isolated, please do not leave valuables in your car.

This beach is horse friendly and dog friendly. Please check the first photo in the gallery which is of a sign which you pass from the car park on the way to the beach, it shows which times your dog needs to be on a lead.

Although this cache is not as far away as The Point, it is still a significant walk. Enjoy the scenery along the way, make sure you take a drink and a bite to eat, maybe make a day of it and have a picnic whilst viewing all the shorebirds that frequent this end of the beach.

The description of The Point has an update advising that some sections of this beach is a nudist beach. Although some naturists do use this beach, it is not a nudist beach, and any adults spotted flaunting their birthday suit are doing so illegally. Having walked this beach for the past twenty years, I'm happy to advise that any naturists using this far end of the beach tend to move off the beach when other beach goers and users approach. However, just something to be aware of if you are heading down there with the family.

This cache is located well over half way along the beach on the way to the Point. Having walked all this way, you may as well keep going, this is the point of no return.

The cache is located near a fairly distinctive dead tree on the edge of the dunes. For some reason, at some time in the past someone decided to decorate this tree using rubbish! A photo of it can be seen in the gallery for The Point (GCZMW6). There is a lot less rubbish on the tree now, however, there is still some there, and every time I walk down there I fill up my little backpack and take it out. Please feel free to remove any remaining rubbish that is still on the tree when you visit (and anything else you may see along the beach).

I hope this cache adds to your experience of walking to The Point.
