Hull Culture Cache 5 - Humber Street Traditional Cache

Celebrating Kingston-upon-Hull's year as the UK City of Culture, the Hull Culture Cache series will take you on a whistle-stop tour of some of the locations that will host events and art installations throughout 2017. The venues are spread out across the city, suburbs and wider East Riding area. This is central to the Hull2017 ethos of engaging strongly with the local communities.

All caches in the series should be simple finds. The series is designed to show off our fabulous city and surrounding area

Some caches will contain a bonus letter on the log sheet. Make a note of the letters you find and the cache that they were found in. These will be needed for a future bonus cache

5. Humber Street

History

The fruit market and Humber Street in particular were home to the city's wholesale fruit trade from the early 20th century, but slowly reduced in size until the remaining traders moved to Priory Park in 2009. A number of trendy bars, eateries and galleries began to open up in the old warehouses. The area started to grow in popularity and is considered to be one of the trendiest up and coming areas in the city. The whole area is undergoing a massive regeneration and is definitely the place to be in the next few years

2017

The annual Humber Street Sesh is the highlight in the calendar for this area, when 100s of local bands play across a number of stages on the first Saturday in August in front of over 30000 people. The Freedom Festival i will also be back in the area in September.

The Humber Street Gallery is a new contemporary Art Gallery that will host a number of roving exhibitions throughout 2017.
