Geocache Description:

Celebrating Kingston-upon-Hull's year as the UK City of Culture, the Hull Culture Cache series will take you on a whistle-stop tour of some of the locations that will host events and art installations throughout 2017. The venues are spread out across the city, suburbs and wider East Riding area. This is central to the Hull2017 ethos of engaging strongly with the local communities.

All caches in the series should be simple finds. The series is designed to show off our fabulous city and surrounding area

Some caches will contain a bonus letter on the log sheet. Make a note of the letters you find and the cache that they were found in. These will be needed for a future bonus cache

8. Hull Truck Theatre

History

The Hull Truck Theatre was founded in 1971 by actor Mike Bradwell when he could not find work. He placed an ad' in Time Out magazine saying, "Half-formed theatre company seeks other half". John Godber joined as Artistic Director in 1984 - his most famous works being "Bouncers" and "Up n' Under". From 1983, the theatre was based in Spring Street until a new £14.5m venue was built and opened in 2009 as part of the St Stephens development.

2017

The theatre has played a major part in Hull2017. It was the focal point of the bid winners announcement in 2013 and the national programme launch for the first season was presented from here in September 2016. A brand new play "The Hypocrite" by hull born playwright Richard Bean was commisioned for 2017, telling the story of the beginning of the English Civil War which started in Hull. Jointly produced by Hull Truck and the RSC, it starred Mark Addy and Caroline Quentin. Many more plays and performances will be ongoing throughout the year
