The Kelson Community Centre was built in the early 1980s after a large section was gifted to the community by a local family. Run by a dedicated group of volunteers (the Kelson Community Association committee) in conjunction with a part-time coordinator and cleaner, the centre now plays host to public meetings, fairs, quiz and bingo evenings, children’s birthday parties, fundraisers, corporate functions, engagement parties, church groups, theatre groups, a regular playgroup and much more.
Kelson Hill can be equally easily explored by car, bicycle, public transport via the Route 150 bus, or on foot. The brisk walk from the foot of the hill will take you past several caches and offers some great views over the Hutt river, Wellington harbour, and Wellington city itself.
Cyclists attempting this cache will no doubt enjoy the ride back down the hill - many cyclists use the nearby digital speed read-out sign to test their bravado when screaming downhill. We obviously don't condone this sort of behaviour, and encourage you to stay within the speed limit at all times :-)
