Geocache Description:

Web Post: '4 Seasons'

This is the 4th of my 'Web Post' caches which are located around Chesterfield, placed with the kind permission of Chesterfield Borough Council. It contains a souvenir stamper (or four!!!) so remember to take a notebook or postcard.

Current Theme: Spring

The 4 Seasons Letterbox Cache

This letterbox cache differs from my other 'Web Post' caches as it will change throughout the year in line with the seasons. It was launched February 2017 with the Winter theme on this webpage, and had an accompanying seasonal stamp with the cache. The stamp then changes at the start of Spring, Summer, Autumn and then Winter again, so there will be 4 different ink stamps throughout the year to collect. FTF mentions are given below to the first cachers to collect each of the individual season stamps along with a mention to the first who collects all 4 stamps. You will only be able to log the cache as a 'Found it' once, but please log a 'Write note' when finding it again and getting the next stamp. The approximate changeover dates for the new seasons' stamps will be around the start of the new (astronomical) season. Check the webpage first though to see if the Current Theme has been changed before you go out looking for a new stamp, as I will change the stamp and the webpage at the same time (remember to refresh if it is a stored webpage in a caching app to see any updates).

FTF honours for each new stamp:

  • Winter Wonderful: cats-eyes (10/2/17)
  • Spring Superstar: littlebellabunny (20/3/17)
  • Summer Sensation: The Asgard (22/6/17)
  • Autumn Awesome: littlebellabunny (22/9/17)
  • First To Find all 4 Seasons: littlebellabunny (22/9/17)

The cache container is a postbox-themed small sized clip-top box wrapped in a camouflaged bag hidden at Holmebrook Country Park, tucked away from the paths and busier main areas. There is a hand-carved souvenir stamp and ink pad with this one which should stay in the container. Remember to put the top back on the ink afterwards and the stamper back in its box and bag so it doesn't make a mess for the next person. There are some blank slips of paper left in there too for those who don't have a stamping book. For best stamping results ensure you press the stamp on the inkpad firmly and rock it side-to-side to get a good coating of ink, especially if the ink is cold (in freezing temperatures it may require a few hot breaths of air on the ink to thaw it out). Press the inked stamp firmly on the paper to print it, again with a slight rocking of pressure to ensure all the edges are done. As with my other letterbox caches I included a special souvenir to keep for the first to find, which is the first imprint made with this stamp that has been laminated. There were then souvenir FTF stamps for each of the other 3 seasons once launched. The new replacement container is a little smaller so there is no room for trackables or swappable items. Letterbox caches may take a little longer to do, given the time unpacking the inkpad and stamper, stamping the card and then waiting a few minutes for it to dry, along with signing the usual log and then packing everything back away. The cache is located in a theoretically quieter area to make it easier to be discrete, but the first one was discovered and vandalised, so the replacement is now a few metres away, to the right of the 'path' into the trees rather than the left where it was before. There are a few low branches and brambles so take care, and check there is no one around playing in this hidden area. The area at GZ should be generally dry although the neighbouring field can be a little wet and muddy, and as such unfortunately is probably not accessible in wheelchairs. It is slightly less muddy if you walk 50 metres west along the path from the car park first and then head into the small field.

After finding this cache you may want to look for other caches in the park and surrounding areas if not done so already. The park is open 24-7 although the gates to these free car parks do get locked around dusk so check the sign by the gates for closing time if you are arriving late in the day. I would recommend it is best to find this cache during daylight.
