Geocache Description:

A simple park-and-grab mystery placed at the Remutaka summit lookout.

The Remutaka Summit is the highest point on the road from Wellington to the Wairarapa. Stop here for a break and take in the views to the East towards Featherston and the West, towards The Hutt Valley and Wellington.

From here you can follow the track to the North along the ridge where there are a number of caches placed. Additionally, just down the hill is a small car park and a track that will take you to the Remutaka trig. There are more caches there too! Don't attempt to walk down to the other car park - this is a busy road and you're much safer driving.

Be Safe! - this is a busy spot and vehicles are constantly arriving and departing. Look after your children and dogs.

The cache has been moved to a new GZ, not far from the original.  The data you have to collect has been updated accordingly.

To find the cache you'll need to seek out some information on plaques, information boards and memorials around the car park.

You can find the cache at S41 0A.BCD E175 1V.WXY where:

A = Number of soldiers depicted crossing on foot: add digits

B = Add the digits of the day of the first European crossing

C = ((Number of named individuals in first European crossing multiplied by the number of guides) x 2) + 1

D = Sir Ernest Shackleton’s visit to the summit:  the last digit of the year minus 2

V = The second digit in the number of cubic metres of rock excavated from the hillside and deposited in the gullies below during the major road improvements in the early 21st century

W = Add the last two digits of the year the spelling of ‘Rimutaka’ changed to ‘Remutaka’ (phonetically 'Rear - moo - tucker' with the first 'R' olled on the tongue)

X = The number of enclosed loops in the name of the corner south of the summit which was previously the sharpest and tightest corner on the road  (and it was, especially when you were heading to the Wairarapa and a truck was coming the other way!! At least I never had to back up so we could pass each other safely!!)

Y = Most frequent digit in the elevation of the Remutaka Pass plus the number of times that digit occurs

Checksum = 50

Remember: there are often muggles around.

Please replace the cache exactly where you found it.
