About Canada
The origin of the name "Canada" ~
Canada was named through a misunderstanding. When Jaques Cartier met with local Natives who invited them to their ‘kanata’ (the word for ‘village’). The party mistakenly thought the name of the country was “Kanata” or Canada.

National Anthem: O' Canada ~
O' Canada was originally written in French by Quebec born composer Calixa Lavallée in 1880. O' Canada has been widely accepted as Canada's national anthem since 1939 but it did not receive official recognition until July 1st, 1980.

Canada’s Motto ~
The motto of the Dominion of Canada is in Latin “A Mari Usque Ad Mare”
- which officially translates into "From Sea to Sea"
