Fremont drag strip opened in 1959 and closed in 1988. In the later years it was called Baylands Raceway Park. The first time I was here was in 1960, I came with my dad to watch Chuck Cherry race The Black Knight. Pretty impressive to an eight year old boy. In the seventies we would come out for the motorcycle races at the oval track next to the drag strip and on Wednesday nights we would drag race our own vehicles in the grudge races at the drag strip. In the late seventies we would be here for the mini stock races and in the eighties for the sprint cars. The best racing though was always the drag races. Many a record was set at Fremont, I think back to The Black Knight and Chuck Cherry, he held the record for his class at 115 MPH and the day I was there he gave me the trophy he won. I still have the trophy and on the bottom it is written 113.59 MPH 12.48 sec. Boy how times have changed ...
You are looking for a hand made container placed on one of the remnants of the old drag strip. It's about seven feet off the ground, take it out and just pull the plastic cap off the end to expose the log.
