Happy 150th Birthday Canada July 1st, 2017!

The Netherlands bred a tulip that looks like a maple leaf to celebrate Canada's 150th birthday!

About Canada
Largest Freshwater Island ~
Canada is home to the largest freshwater island in the world. Manitoulin Island, in Lake Huron, is the world’s largest island surrounded by freshwater. The island itself has 108 freshwater lakes. Its area is 2,766 km2 (1,068 square miles). It has a permanent population of 12 thousand people.

Canada's Lakes ~
Canada has more lake area than any other country in the world and so it should come as no surprise that roughly 20% of the world’s freshwater is to be found there. There are an estimated 2 million lakes in Canada covering approximately 7.6% of Canada’s land area. The largest lake wholly in Canada is Great Bear Lake, Northwest Territories, covering an area of 31,328 square kilometres. The deepest lake in Canada is Great Slave Lake, Northwest Territories, which is 614 metres deep.

Canada’s Motto ~
The motto of the Dominion of Canada is in Latin “A Mari Usque Ad Mare”
- which officially translates into "From Sea to Sea"
