Don't let the name scare you! I lived much of my young life on Juniper Drive and my dad and a few other locals I know still call it Rattlesnake Hill, but I've hiked this hill several times over the last 40 years and have never seen a rattlesnake. With that in mind - keep an eye out for them especially in the warm months since there is always a possibility of snakes and biting/stinging insects in the outdoors.
The logical approach to this site is via Juniper drive. There's a barricade just beyond the second parking turnout. From there you have about a 0.3 mile walk to the base of the hill. Take your time to find the easiest way up. I suggest a little zig-zag while going up. At the top is an incredible 360 degree view of the Yreka and Shasta Valley area. There are many interesting rock formations up there too. Pack a light lunch and take a nice break at the top while you enjoy the view.
