Il Viona è un torrente che nasce nella colma del Mombarone a circa 200 metri di quota. Dopo un percorso di 15 KM confluisce nell'Ingagna a Mongrando. Nonostante sembri un torrente insignificante Il Viona è stata al centro di dispute fin dall'antichità. Secondo le informazioni raccolte dagli storici l'acqua del torrente era probabilmente utilizzata dai Salassi per le miniere d'oro e la deviazione del suo corso determinava un maggior o minor afflusso di acqua nelle pianure biellesi. A detta di Strabone, fu questo contenzioso a legittimare l'invasione romana dei territori Salassi. Ma il confine tra Ivrea e Vercelli, sia in termini civili che ecclesiastici, rimase motivo di scontro fino ad epoche più recenti, tanto che nel 1309, con un accordo, venne sancito che proprio il torrente avrebbe costituito il nuovo confine tra i due territori.
