****VERY IMPORTANT PARKING UPDATE, you have to reserve a spot (for fee) or take the shuttle, please check out the link below, if you are more of a hiker you can always hike in from the top for free, from the pantoll area (parking fee) or park along the road going up to pantoll, there are trails going down from there and road side parking, *** https://www.nps.gov/muwo/index.htm *** * *
I love the bootjack trail and there was once the boot bridge cache, mine is not as creative however, just a quick grab I hope
My favourite hike in the area is starting at muir woods go up boot jack trail, alpine trail to pantoll, from pantoll take the old mine trail to dipsea and turn right onto the dipsea trail heading down, once you hit the creek / bridge and steep ravine trail (option 1 ) you can turn right up hill for the very nice steep ravine trail to pantoll, from pantoll take ben johnson trail down to muir woods that should give you around 11 miles and around 2600 feet elevation gain
Option 2, turn left at the bridge, downhill, in the middle of the next short uphill section turn left and take the steep ravine trail down to hwy 1 , cross hwy and take the road down to rocky point beach (and steep ravine cabins) there you can find a couple caches, one is mine but it's only accessible at a low tide, I like this beach area it's rocky and generally a lot more quiet and more scenic than stinson beach, retrace your steps all the way to the bridge where the dipsea trail met steep ravine and continue up steep ravine to pantoll ranger station, from pantoll take ben johnson down to the muir woods, that would give you around 15 miles and around 3400 feet elevation gain
