Geo-Geek Squad Multi-Cache

GeeOhJim: I was geocaching locally with some out of town friends today when one decided to complete this one after an fallen tree issue with Stage 2 caused him to fail to find some months ago. Today we discovered together that the Final has gone missing by being muggled, stolen, or returned in the wrong hiding place. (We couldn't find it and I went back later for a more thorough search. It's gone.)

This multi has had several issues before which required owner maintenance (Stage 1 once went missing too). And it's almost time for the city to close off physical access to the roads leading to Stages 1 and 2 again for three months for the annual Christmas Light Show. This requires an annual "Temporary Disable" followed by an "Enable" three months later.

I've enjoyed creating Geo-Geek Squad and reading the logs and viewing the photos of those intrepid geocachers who were inducted into the hallowed ranks of Geo-Geek Squad Technician. But I'm all out of one of the physical elements of the Final Stage which prohibits me from re-creating it.

The time has come for me to put this one to bed. Thanks for all the Smilies!

Geocache Description:

Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to prove your technological mettle by solving this 3-Stage Multi-Cache. It will involve the utilization of a method of receiving instruction other than "just" the usual geocaching toolkit. Those who succeed will be awarded the title of Geo-Geek Squad Technician.

Let me introduce you to Dwayne.

He'll be your mentor and will guide you along on your journey into the Geek-Zone, where you will (hopefully) gain the necessary credentials to be admitted into the much coveted Order of The Geo-Geek Squad.

We've come to utilize technology without often giving much thought to the roots from which it sprang. The Smartphone has become ubiquitous, and has become a multi-purpose tool not only for making "calls", but for performing a wide array of functions, including assisting with geocaching. We find nearby geocaches, navigate to them, find them, and log them, most often without fully appreciating just how far we've come with technology.

But there are those of us who cut our teeth on 360K floppy drives, 128KB of memory (yes, kilobytes), 300 baud acoustically coupled modems (1,200 baud was blazingly fast), and "Sneakernet"; long before there was much Ethernet, much less "The Internet" and "The Cloud". We old timers in the industry earned our Geek Stripes the hard way.

This cache is meant as a tribute to those "Bad Old Days", and as a means for geocachers, both young and old, to join the ranks of the Geo-Geek Squad.

The Stage 1 and Stage 3 (Final) containers are large enough for small Tradables and Trackables. Please do not take away the permanent contents of the containers or you will "break" the cache. You will find it helpful to bring along a Smartphone equipped with a browser and a live internet connection and (optionally) a camera. BYOP in case the original one goes missing.

NOTE: If anyone cannot proceed to Stage 2 due to technical limitations or problems, please message the Cache Owner and I'll try to provide a workaround.

OPTIONAL: Those who make it to the Stage 3 (Final) location will be given the opportunity to include themselves in the Geo-Geek Squad Technician Photo Gallery. This is not a requirement. Instructions are provided within the Stage 3 container.
