Adding to the Miners Memorial series with a cache placeD at a site to commemorate several local collieries.
Three sandstone obelisks each holding a bronze plaque with the names of the men and boys killed while working at Hucknall's Top and Bottom pits, and the nearby Linby Pit.
In the centre of these obelisks is a bronze statue of a miner. It is estimated that while they were operational around 1,200 men and boys were killed working in the Hucknall, Linby and surrounding pits while they were operational.
This statue was commissioned by Ashfield District Council to commemorate the people who worked at the colliery from 1868 until 1986. The statue was created by Graham Ibbeson M.A. (R.C.A.) Sculptor and unveiled on 25th June 2005 by Chairman of the Council, Councillor Charles Short. Funded by contributions from a local supermarket and Nottingham County Council.
This area has very recently been landscaped to allow for the new Hucknall road to by pass the town centre. It is a nice spot to sit and watch the World go by.
