Geocache Description:

An Eat and Greet to celebrate Donerstag with other geocachers around the world.

DATE:     Thursday, April 13, 2017
TIME:     5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
WHERE:     Subway in El Dorado (Timberlane location)

This year Groundspeak is celebrating geocaching around the world.  Geocachers are invited to join Signal the Frog as he travels to different countries to “geocache like a local.”

Signal’s first stop is Germany and while he is there he will celebrate a local geocaching tradition called Donerstag.  Donerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time and the tradition caught on!  Last year, over 6,000 players attended 233 Donerstag events.  The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.

As stated the events were held at kebab shops.  A Doner kebab is a very popular Turkish-German fast food that is shaved lamb, turkey or chicken on flat bread.  Lettuce, tomato, onion, sometimes red or white cabbage, and a white sauce, are on the sandwich, too.  Sometimes it comes with a spicy red sauce or just red pepper flakes on top.  That sounds similar to something you can create at one of our local sandwich shops.

You have a chance to earn a digital Donerstag souvenir for your profile page by attending a geocaching event on April 13, 2017.  Please mark your calendar and plan on joining me and Bronco46 to create your own “Doner kebab,” earn your souvenir, discuss new caches, old caches, and your geocaching adventures.

PLEASE SIGN UP IF YOU PLAN ON ATTENDING this event so we can know in advance how many people to plan for.  You do not have to buy any food at the restaurant to be able to attend this meeting, but please do not bring any of your own food or drinks into the restaurant.
