Geocache Description:

Take a walk across Wolseley's Swinging Bridge.

Bridge

Nestled in the heart of Wolseley is a very beautiful pocket park and fun swinging bridge. The bridge spans across Fairy Lake. The bridge was first built in 1902 for a total cost of $300.00. In 1954, winds caused the bridge to be blown down. The bridge was rebuilt in 1964. The bridge was then reconstructed subsequently in 1991 after another wind-storm blew it down. The current bridge built in 2004 spans 100 metres and cost $250,000 to build. To the west of the bridge is the Wolseley dam that dams up Wolf Creek creating Fairy Lake. The lake itself was the inspiration behind Wolseley's "town around a lake" slogan. Directly to the north of the bridge is the Wolseley Courthouse built in 1894. It is a historic building that was recently approved for a restoration project. It has not been used for court proceedings since 1999.
