This church held its first service 1st April 2007, but its history spans back more than 150 years. In 1983 Red Hill Baptist Church became a church in its own right. It had a small chapel in Cannon Street and met on Sundays in local schools for many years. They recognised the church could be much more fruitful if they had a purpose-built church centre and eventually they were able to open the church centre in St Peter’s in 2007. At that point, they changed their name to St Peter’s Baptist Church. Work on the £1.6 million church, which was funded by donations from the congregation and charity events over a period of 10 years, started about 15 months before.
The building lacks many features of a traditional church such as a bell, organ or stained glass windows, however, it is purpose built and even houses a coffee shop.
An extensive history of the church can be found here.
