Geocache Description:

Stop here and look across the road at Indian Head Rock. Then find this cache and sign the log!

Submitted for your caching enjoyment is this Pareidolia Geocache. Pareidolia is a type of Apophenia. Both are a psychological phenomenon in which the mind perceives recognizable shapes where none actually exist. People who experience Pareidolia see animals in clouds, or some Deity or another on the surface of their toast. At this location, in the rock outcropping across the road, the head of a Native American Indian looking up into the sky provides the Mimetolith backdrop while you are geocaching. Although Pareidolia and Apophenia are terms given this phenomenon, the actual rock that create this illusion is called a Mimetolith.

A Sunday drive to Teton Ski area was the enabling force behind this hide. We were surprised that there were no geocaches near here. The cache is a small DECON (military decontamination) type container. Bring a pen or pencil with you to sign the log.

If caching in warmer weather, be aware of your surroundings. Snakes and Bear have been known to frequent the area. Keep an eye peeled for Deer and Elk as well. The nearby sign reads: "INDIAN HEAD ROCK"… and in that simple 3-word name is the clue to this hide. Photos are always welcome and encouraged, but please do not compromise the location of the cache when posting photos.
