Though there have been Dönerstag celebrations in Germany for years, you are invited to come and celebrate it in Hickory for the first time! (And receive a lovely souvenir to top it all off!)
Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around Germany, all at the same time. The tradition caught on! The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.” Last year, over 6,000 cachers attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland. On Thursday, April 13, geocachers will gather to celebrate the 11th annual Dönerstag. You can earn the first-ever Dönerstag souvenir by attending this event. Let's meet at DaVinci's Italian Restaurant in Viewmont at 6:45 PM until 8:00 PM and share a wonderful evening of great geocaching stories! All are welcomed no matter the age or experience (we love to see new faces and familiar ones) and no purchase is necessary to join us. Even if you can only drop by for a few minutes, that's good too. This event will be a small part of a greater whole, with events happening around the world on this date. Come and be a part of making Geocaching history!! Be sure to post your Will Attend please so the restaurant can have an idea of how many places to set up. Bring any geocoins/TB's you want to drop off or have discovered.
