The church has its origins in the early 1920’s when Harry Brown came to Dursley and held a gospel tent campaign and converted a number of locals. A formal meeting place was needed, and in 1922 the group heard of a corrugated iron chapel which was no longer used on Salisbury Plain. They travelled the 60 or so miles and dismantled the building sheet by sheet, plank by plank (with the owner’s permission!), transported it to Dursley where it was re-erected on its current site, keeping the original seating and organ. Having organised the erection of the Hall, Harry Brown went out to Africa as a missionary.
The community grew and in 1950 the Hall was extended. There was a strong Young People’s Group, reaching out to local youths in the form of the Sunday School and “Monday Nighters”, a kind of youth club which ran until the late 1970’s/ early 80’s.
