Geocache Description:

This series highlights small section of the Fox River Trail, coming north out of Elgin. Fox River Trail is a multi-use trail that allows hiking, biking, cross-country skiing and jogging. Horses and motorized vehicles are not allowed. This section of the trail is a rails to trails conversion of an old Chicago & Northwestern line. It runs along the banks of the Fox River, and has some beautiful scenery along the way.

The full trail runs all the way from Hudson Crossing Park in Oswego, IL to the junction of Souwanas Trail and Prairie Trail in Algonquin, IL. The trail has many connection points to other trail systems, so you can park in one area and travel miles without being subject to city traffic.

At the North end, Prairie Trail continues on the same reclaimed train line all the way across the Wisconsin border where it ends in Genoa City, WI.

There is an unnamed trail west under I90 going to Voyager Landing Forest Preserve, and continuing along River Road to Tyler Creek Forest Preserve.

The Fox River Trail connects to all 4 branches of the Illinois Prairie Path. It connects to the Elgin Branch just south of downtown Elgin. It connects to the Geneva Spur in Riverbank Park. The connection to the Batavia branch is in Glenwood Park Forest Preserve. And you can connect to the Aurora Branch using Illinois Avenue to cross the Fox River.

In South Elgin, It connects to the Stearns Road trail which will take you over to James Pate Philip State Park in Bartlett, and also the River Bend Bike trail in Jon J. Duerr Forest Preserve, which will take you along Silver Glenn Road to the Mid County Trail along Randall Rd.

In St. Charles, it connects to the Great Western Trail, just south of Pottawatomie Park.

We hope you enjoy your visit to the Elgin section of the Fox River Trail.
